THE MAGNA CARTA
By: Adrian BaconThe Magna Carta was a medieval document that greatly affected the feudalistic society of Europe. This document, containing 63 clauses, gave all the people of medieval Europe many rights. Some of these rights include the right that people are innocent until proven guilty. Another right is that the king or ruler had no say in religious matters... that is to be decided by the followers of that religion, and that the king cannot throw people in jail or raise taxes on the barons just because he wanted to.

King John
The Magna Carta was written and signed because a series of unwanted actions performed by King John. To start off, King John kept on raising the taxes on barons to pay for the war (The 100 Years War). The barons had had enough of that, and rallied together on a march on the king's castle. The ralliers found King John in the town of Runneymade, and forced upon him the Magna Carta, which is also known as the Great Charter. Since the king knew that he was going to be murdered if he did not sign it, he signed the Magna Carta. Althhough, he did not take the signing easily, and some historians recorded him going home to scream and roll around like a madman. In the next few months, King John tried to annul, or make void, the Magna Carta. This started yet another rally, except in this one King John ended up dead.
The Magna Carta has made a huge impact on the Middle Ages society and our daily lives today im many ways. For example, in the Middle Ages many people received rights and freedoms because of the Magna Carta. This allowed barons to prosper and finally be able to sell their crops because the king wasn't taxing them and throwing them in jail every this way and that. In today's society, we enjoy those same rights and freedoms because our Constitution is based off the main idea of the Magna Carta.
In conlusion, the Magna Carta was a very important medieval document written by the barons because their king, King John, was abusing his power as a monarch and causing havoc with his own people. When the barons could take no more, they decided to rebel and forced King John to sign the Magna Carta. When King John tried to annul the document, the barons rallied again and this time killed him. The Magna Carta gave freedoms and rights to all of the citizens in both the Middle Ages and in today's society.
